ABOUT THE POSITION

The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is recruiting to fill one permanent full-time Supervising Environmental Health Specialist position in the Environmental Health Division, located in Concord California. The position will be assigned in one of the following areas of Land Development, Consumer Protection, Retail Food, or Plan Check.

Working in one of the above program areas, Supervising Environmental Health Specialists establish program priorities, interpret as well as implement state and federal program mandates, and supervise Environmental Health Specialists and Trainees. The Environmental Health Division is responsible for monitoring compliance with local, state, and/or federal regulations for retail food safety and facilities, recreational health (e.g. public swimming pools), land use, solid waste collection, small water systems, and medical waste and body art.

The successful candidate will have proven expertise in solid waste, land use, retail food and/or other consumer protection program to adroitly lead a team of inspectors.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of state valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License will be accepted during the application process.

Education: Possession of a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in an environmental health or science curriculum which meets the education requirements of the California State Department of Health Services for registration as an Environmental Health Specialist.

Certificate: Possession of a valid certificate of registration as an Environmental Health Specialist issued by the State of California.

Experience: Four (4) years of full-time or its equivalent experience as an Environmental Health Specialist in an agency involved with environmental Health, public health, rural or urban sanitation.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Prior to employment, a background investigation/fingerprint exam will be conducted on all candidates.
