Arlington County, VA seeks to fill a key position in the Community Health Prevention Bureau (CPHB) of the Public Health Division, Department of Human Services. We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Environmental Health Supervisor responsible for the day-to-day supervision of professional staff in the Environmental Health Program.

The Environmental Health Program is responsible for licensing and regulating over 1400 permanent and temporary food establishments, over 300 swimming pools and spas, and over 40 hotels, assuring compliance with local, state and federal regulations. The Program's role in Public Health is to prevent and control the spread of disease transmitted by food, water, sewage, animal, and environmental hazards.

Specific duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
•directing and supervising staff;
•collecting and analyzing performance data;
•utilizing data to recommend policy and procedural changes;
•implementing local policies and procedures;
•scheduling inspection assignments;
•managing databases to support day-to-day operations;
•recruiting, hiring, orienting and ensuring standardization of new Environmental Health Specialists/Community Inspectors;
•ensuring quality assurance/improvement and compliance with local, State and Federal health codes/regulations;
•planning, implementing and evaluating day-to-day regulatory services, including directing/monitoring the enforcement process for establishments that are non-compliant;
•researching and drafting communications, including County Board reports for code changes and responses to public concerns directed to the County Board; and,
•utilizing the Incident Command System to lead outbreak investigations and respond to public health emergencies



Requires: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Biology, Chemistry, or related sciences PLUS three years of professional experience in environmental health which included regulatory work in food safety, water recreational facilities and/or urban environmental health programs, one year of which must have included experience managing projects and coordinating or supervising the work of others.
