ABOUT THE POSITION

The Tennessee Department of Health is accepting applications for the position of Director of the statewide Public Health Emergency Preparedness (EP) Program. This person provides overall programmatic oversight of statewide programs, including the federally funded Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) and the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) Hospital Preparedness cooperative agreements. Responsibilities include taking a lead role in health and medical emergency response activities, oversight of a multi-million dollar budget, several federal cooperative agreements, a large central office staff, and coordination of statewide personnel including regional hospital coordinators, epidemiologists, volunteer coordinators, and emergency response coordinators. The position requires close collaboration with other local, state and federal partners. The ideal candidate will have five to seven years of demonstrated experience and skill in human resource management and budget management, program leadership and coordination, long term strategic planning, emergency management, health and medical emergency preparedness activities, and public communication.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A master’s degree is preferred, but this can be substituted with years of experience in a public health or emergency management related field.
