The Contra Costa County Health Services Department is accepting applications to fill 3 vacancies located in Concord, CA. Incumbents will drive throughout Contra Costa County in performance of their duties.

Under close supervision, the successful candidates will perform routine environmental health inspections. Typical tasks include routine inspections of food facilities, schools, solid waste facilities, small water well installations, medical waste facilities, onsite wastewater treatment systems and other public and private facilities, and inspecting wells and soil borings, sewage disposal systems, solid waste management facilities and other public and private installations. In addition, Trainees will work with experienced Environmental Health Specialists in preparation for the State Registration Exam. Employment in this class is limited to 36 months. During that period, the incumbent is expected to obtain a certificate of Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist. After obtaining registration, the incumbents will be assigned to a higher level class of Environmental Health Specialists.



To qualify, you must have a Bachelor’s degree in an environmental health or science related field and a letter certifying eligibility to become an Environmental Health Specialist Trainee provided by the CA State Department of Public Health, Registered Environmental Health Specialist Program. A valid CA driver’s license is also required.
