ABOUT THE POSITION

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, Division of Environmental Health is seeking an energetic and proactive environmental health professional to serve as an Environmental Health Officer I/II. This trainee/entry level position is responsible for planning and conducting low to medium risk level inspections, writing inspection reports, performing investigations, issuing permits, providing technical or educational assistance, training operators and others in elements of Alaska's food safety system, and initiating enforcement and compliance actions. The work requires the application of a broader base of knowledge to more complex facilities and situations than the advanced environmental health technician. FLEXIBLY STAFFED This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at the Environmental Health Officer I or Environmental Health Officer II level depending on the applicant's training and/or experience.
 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Environmental Health Officer I A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in an environmental, physical, biological, food technology, or natural science. Environmental Health Officer II A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in an environmental, physical, biological, food technology, or natural science; AND One year of trainee/entry professional level experience inspecting, investigating, or permitting retail food establishments, food processing activities or public facilities. Substitution: Four years of any combination of experience in applying public health and environmental health standards or quality control within a food processing industry or in support of a regulatory agency and post-secondary education from an accredited college (3 semester or 4 quarter hours equal one month) will substitute for the required degree.
