Director, Environmental Health

About the Position

The Director of Environmental Health is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating and managing the administrative and operational activities of the Environmental Health Department within the Consumer and Environmental Protection Agency. This is an executive management position that reports directly to the Director, Consumer and Environmental Protection Agency


The Director of Environmental Health is a complex and highly visible position that will require the successful candidate to possess a current, valid Certificate of Registration as an Environmental Specialist issued by the State of California.

A qualified candidate would typically possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health or a closely related field and a minimum of five (5) years of recent progressively responsible experience working in an Environmental Health program.  At least two (2) years experience managing a multifaceted Environmental Health program with a minimum of three (3) years of experience performing the duties of a California Registered Environmental Health Specialist.

Possession of a Master’s Degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of the general experience.  Administrative experience handling complex budgets and programs is desirable.
