Water Recreation Program Specialist 

About the Position

As a statewide Water Recreation Facilities (WRF) technical specialist, this position supports the OEHS mission by reviewing and approving plans and specifications, conducting field investigations, developing technical documents, providing training, and providing consultation, direction and assistance to local health staff, industry, colleagues, consumers and policy makers – all within the Water Recreation Program.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

NOTE:  Experience may have been gained concurrently.

Public Health Advisor 2, In-Training level:

   •A Bachelor's degree or higher in public health, environmental health, or a closely allied science.

   •Three (3) or more years (full-time equivalency) of professional experience in environmental health.

Public Health Advisor 3 level:

   •A Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental public health, environmental science, or a closely allied field.

   •Five (5) or more years (full-time equivalency) of progressive experience in an environmental public health program which includes the following:

   ◦Interpreting regulations and statutes, providing technical assistance, and sharing information about environmental public health hazards or issues.

   ◦Developing and presenting training and educational outreach on environmental public health hazards or issues to a broad scope of stakeholders.

   ◦Participating in the development of environmental public health guidance, best practices, policies or rules regarding environmental public health hazards or issues.

   •Two (2) or more years (full-time equivalency) of progressive experience in an environmental public health program including: conducting compliance inspections, and providing training and technical assistance in a water recreation facilities program.

Desirable Qualifications

NOTE:  Experience may have been gained concurrently.

   •Three (3) or more years (full-time equivalency) of progressive experience conducting compliance inspections, and providing training and technical assistance in a water recreation facilities program.

   •Two (2) or more years (full-time equivalency) of progressive experience reviewing engineered plans and specifications for water recreation facilities, swimming and diving pools, wading pools, hot tubs, and spray features and water parks.  Experience designing water recreation facilities may be substituted for review experience.

   •Current Pool/Spa Operator Certification, issued by the National Swimming Pool Foundation, or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification issued by the National Recreation and Park Association.
