About the Position
Under the supervision of the Public Health Officer, inspects commercial, residential, and public locations in the county to enforce federal, state, and county sanitation and environmental health laws to safeguard the public health. Reviews plans, blueprints, and specifications for construction of new facilities or renovation of existing structures. Investigates complaints of violations of environmental health laws and assists the public with complaints and questions regarding sanitation and environmental health matters. Reviews plans for commercial systems that require review and approval by a registered sanitarian. Assists with the development and review of departmental policies and procedures and may act as a specialist for specific programs such as food service, water or wastewater.
Current salary range starting at $45,177 progressing to $58,739 (7 year progression) with a competitive fringe benefit package.
Bachelor’s Degree in environmental health or related field and three years of progressively more responsible experience in environmental health and health programs. Must be currently licensed as a registered sanitarian (RS or REHS) with ability to practice in Michigan.
