About the Position

The Washoe County Health District is seeking a well-qualified Environmental Health Services Division Director.

The Environmental Health Services Division Director is a senior leadership position responsible for management and leadership of the division. The Environmental Health Services Division has a staffing level of 43 full-time employees (FTE) and annual operating budget of $6,775,000. The division provides a broad range of services across the spectrum of environmental health that include programs, regulation and oversight of food service establishments, temporary events, land development, wells, septic, drinking water systems, solid waste management, underground storage tanks, vector borne diseases, invasive body decoration, institutions/facilities, and outbreak investigation. The Director is responsible for administration of these programs and is assisted by Environmental Health Supervisors.


Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in natural or environmental sciences or a closely related field, AND six years of full-time experience performing environmental control or enforcement functions in a health department or industry, including two years of supervisory experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.


  • A valid Nevada driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
  • Certification as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist is desirable.
