Environmental Health Specialist 2 

About the Position

Clackamas County's Public Health Division is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist 2 to perform professional environmental health work in connection with enforcement and public education. This position will be responsible for applying sanitary, biological and physical science principles and knowledge to improve and control environmental factors affecting the public health and welfare.

The Environmental Health Specialist 2 will conduct surveys, inspections and investigations of public and private facilities to determine compliance with public health laws and administrative rules.

This position may also provide consultative and education services in Environmental Sanitation to public and private groups.

Successful candidates will be detail orientated and well organized with the ability to work independently and with a team.

The ideal candidate will have experience in environmental health site inspections and experience with drinking water regulations and programs. The ideal candidate will also be well-versed in interpreting policy and procedures as well as knowledgeable of communicable diseases.

Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:

  • Must possess certification as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist through the Oregon Health Licensing office at time of hire (per ORS 700.020) (Applicants' registration status will be confirmed prior to interviews and proof of registration will be required at the time of appointment to the position)
  • Experience working effectively with others in a team-oriented environment as well as working independently
  • Experience producing quality technical, detailed, and accurate reports
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate well with the public
  • Direct customer service experience with strong customer service skills • Highly developed skills in conflict resolution
  • Must successfully pass a criminal history check which may include national or state fingerprint records check
  • Must successfully pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test
  • Driving is required for County business on a regular basis or to accomplish work. Incumbents must possess a valid driver's license, and possess and maintain an acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment.
