Air Quality Specialist II 

About the Position

Conduct routine air quality monitoring and analysis. Compute and report daily Air Quality Index to the public. Respond to and investigates complaints of air quality, odor, smoke, smoking in public places, marijuana retail establishments, mold, pesticide applications, noise, nuisance complaints and other health matters. Enforce municipal code. Respond to inquiries and questions from the public. Prepare reports and makes public presentations on air quality data and activities. Advise and assist department director when air quality advisories should be declared to protect public health. Provide technical assistance and public health education to permit holders, and the public. Administer grants related to air quality including drafting agreements, monitoring budgets, compliance and reporting. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related discipline and two (2) years of air sampling, testing, analysis, and/or air quality reporting experience.

All applicants must possess and/or complete:

  • Valid State of Alaska Driver's License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • Municipality of Anchorage Certification as a Designated Peace Officer within six (6) months of hire.
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 9 Visual Emissions Certification within six (6) months of hire.

Preferences:

  • Obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Experience with analyzing Air Quality Index and implementing appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Experience with code enforcement including conflict resolution.
