Research
and Development
The Research and Development (R&D)
Department of the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) is
responsible for obtaining and administering grants and contracts from
outside sources to generate programs and resources to assist the EH
professional in "providing a healthful environmental for all."
NEHA has a long and successful record in performing grant and contract
work, most often in conjunction with federal agencies such as the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (USEPA), and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease
Registry (ATSDR). NEHA has also completed projects with private entities,
consortia, and local government entities.
Through the R&D Department, NEHA has
developed numerous educational workshops, computer-based training
programs, guidance manuals, and two of its credentials for the benefit of
environmental health practitioners. Currently, the R&D Department is
managing nine major grant-funded programs, all in cooperation with federal
agencies.
These programs are:
As a part of NEHA's current grant work,
R&D personnel are actively cultivating numerous national partnerships
and initiatives including:
-
CDC's National Environmental Public
Health Tracking Partners
-
National Coalition for Food-Safe Schools
-
National Onsite Wastewater Management
Guidelines Coalition
-
EPA's National Cooperative Partners for
Indoor Air Quality
In addition to grant and contract work, the
R&D Department recently initiated a new program—the NEHA Center for
Environmental Research and Training (NEHA CERT). NEHA CERT is dedicated to
the development and delivery of public outreach programs dealing with
environmental health issues.
Over the coming year, NEHA will be actively
exploring new research and development opportunities in the areas of
bio-security/agricultural terrorism response, applied food safety
research, environmental health and land use planning, environmental health
leadership development, and children's environmental health.
