About the Position
Health Department of Northwest Michigan seeks qualified applicants for two 1.0 FTE EHS Food Sanitarian positions - One position in Otsego County AND one position in Charlevoix County.
These challenging and rewarding full time positions utilize knowledge of various environmental health conditions and the application of regulations intended to protect the public’s health and environment within our district, and demonstrate good interpersonal and customer service skills, a high level of verbal and written communication, organizational and time management skills, and the ability to work independently, as well as part of a cohesive team.
The Food Sanitarian is the primary contact for the on-site Environmental Health Services programs in Otsego County, acts as a professional representative of the Health Department of Northwest Michigan, and is responsible for the execution of general environmental health programs, such as, but not limited to -
• Inspecting and evaluating food service establishments and mobile food units
• Licensing temporary food events
• Conducting complaint investigations
• Responding to food-borne illness activity
• Regulation enforcement and compliance associated with these programs
• Participating in Public Health Emergency Preparedness exercises and responses
The Health Department of Northwest Michigan offers a competitive wage, (minimum annual wage of $54,870.40, with further consideration for national or Michigan registered applicants,) an excellent benefit package, and generous paid time off.

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in environmental health, science, engineering, or related field is required, with Michigan or Nationally Registered applicants highly desired. Experience in EH food service inspection/compliance activities preferred. Possession of a valid Michigan vehicle operator’s license and current automobile insurance is necessary.
